WAYS TO GIVE/DONATE

Happy Bee Honey Club needs your support.  All of our work is done through the generous support of our Founder and donors who are committed to saving honey bees.  We need continued support in order for our organization to be sustainable and to continue our work to save the honey bees.

We so appreciate your kindness - the millions of tiny honey bees that we rescue, remove, relocate and look after every year owe a lot to people like you.  Your donation goes towards purchasing new hives, frames, related equipment, non-toxic outdoor paint, specialized removal equipment for difficult removals, bee tools like brushes, hive tools, stands, ant traps, gas, time, sometimes we need to pay contractors to help get access to where the bees are living etc.  And of course, once we have relocated the bees, we need to do regular inspections to make sure they're doing well - which is our passion, but very time consuming when you have dozens of hives to check on.  So even though YOUR hive may have been removed, there's still a lifetime of care that needs to go into looking after it.  And then of course when hurricane season comes around, we need to secure every hive using bungee straps and cords and ropes and all kinds of things - all cost money.

You can of course donate using Paypal (see button below), but if you want to save us the large transaction fees that we are charged, an even better way to donate is through ZELLE or Venmo.  Zelle is very easy to set up through your online banking - all you need to do is enter our email address happybeehoneyclub@yahoo.com as the Recipient - and the donation will go straight to our account, immediately, and we and the bees receive the full amount.  For Venmo, just enter the phone number (248) 320 7372.  (the name should show up as Evan McCarthy, or the Happy Bee Honey Club) Whichever way you choose to donate, it is greatly appreciated, by us and the entire honey bee community.  Have other ideas or ways to give?  Scroll down!

IN-KIND DONATIONS

Even the smallest donation makes a difference to us.  What do we do with the monetary donations we get?

  • A gift of $50 provides your Happy Bee Honey Club team members new bee protection gear like veils, gloves (they get worn out really quickly), smokers, bee suits, boots etc.  We need tools like bee brushes, hive tools, drills, electric saws, circular saws, blades, extension cables, stands, ant traps, paint, sugar, glass jars, paint brushes, bungee straps (to secure the hives during hurricanes), etc.  Without these, we could not do our work.  If you donate $50, then the next time you see us at work, we could well be using gloves YOU purchased for us, or a veil YOUR donation bought for us!

A gift of $100 provides us with swarm traps to attract wild swarms - this is our best chance at preserving wild bees - many wild bee swarms don't survive (they find a home in someone's roof or water meter etc. where they're exterminated) - so swarm traps or swarm boxes are essential.  This is just a small box that is easy to install up high in a tree, that a passing swarm might decide to make their home.  We then remove the swarm trap and put those bees in a proper hive - that way they will be safe forever.

  • A gift of $300 provides us with one fully equipped brand new hive, including bottom board, entrance reducer, hive, frames, inner screen and telescoping lid - CRUCIAL for us to put bees into.  Just think - for a donation like this, the next time you see one of our bee hives, that could be the one YOU provided for us!  In case you're thinking "I see cheaper hives on the internet all the time." you'd be absolutely right.  A lot of people skimp when it comes to the hive, buying the cheapest one they can find, and then wonder why, when they have got bees in there, the bees either die or leave, or just live a miserable unhealthy existence.  Often these cheap hives have a layer of paint on them emitting toxic fumes, or else they're made of substandard wood that may go mouldy or just rot, or else they are poorly made with gaps that cause problems for the bees.  Maybe the inner screens are badly made so that pests easily find their way in - and we tell people "would YOU like to live in the cheapest, poorly made home?" - of course not.  If you're going to the trouble of raising bees, then give them a GOOD QUALITY, WELL MADE home.  You'll have happy bees.  Also do NOT skimp on the paint - make sure you use good quality outdoor NON TOXIC LATEXT PAINT - again that's not cheap, but it's imperative, to make the hive last as long as possible, prevent mould and leaks, and to make sure the hive stands up to rain, wind, sun etc.  So we make sure we buy the best quality hives we can from a reputable hive manufacturer.  And we paint with two coats of paint, and this is why our hives cost $300 in total, once they're painted and assembled with the frames and all components.
